Ryan Heimbach is a versatile contemporary artist based in Laguna Beach, California, whose work spans sculpture, drawing, painting, and mixed media. Exposed to the art world at a young age through his mother’s gallery and his uncle, artist William DeBilzan. Ryan began his professional path under the mentorship of Andrew Myers. He gained significant early recognition in 2011 as the youngest artist that summer to be accepted into the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach for his “Hands of Time” sculpture series.
A hallmark of Ryan’s creative practice is his unique Wrinkled Drawings series, where he executes detailed charcoal drawings on intentionally wrinkled paper that is wrinkled only within the portrait. This technique imbues flat drawings with a sculptural, textured quality from the wrinkles that challenges the viewer's perception. His evolution as an artist has recently led him into oil painting, where he explores narrative and figurative themes with a modern twists to classic mediums.
Ryan’s art has reached global audiences, notably appearing in the second and fourth season of the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, where his piece is displayed in the bedroom of the main character played by Jennifer Aniston. His portfolio reflects a deep commitment to experimentation, often incorporating diverse materials such as resin, cement, and rice paper. Whether producing charcoal drawings, large-scale oil works, or mixed media sculptures Ryan continues to refine his figurative style, blending traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive experimental aesthetic developed through over fifteen years of dedicated practice.
